-------------------------------------------- Chris' Crazy Car Factory of Fun -
Version 1.42 By Chris Barnard
29th December 1999

Ok, here's a brief introduction to editing NFS4 FCE files.

First off, there are a few things CarCAD can't edit that are part of the
NFS4 FCE file structure. I decided to release this now because I basically
wanted to get something working available to everyone as soon as possible.
There's a list of stuff that's missing from this release at the end of this
file.

As far as I'm aware, you'll need the NFS4-compatible version of VIV Wizard
(www.nfscheats.com/nfstoolbox). Download that and use it to extract the 'FCE'
file from the car 'VIV' files in NFS4.

When you name the different parts of the car, you should use the following
names:

    ":HB" : High Body
":HLFW" : High Left Front Wheel
":HRFW" : High Right Front Wheel
":HLMW" : High Left Middle Wheel
":HRMW" : High Right Middle Wheel
":HLRW" : High Left Rear Wheel
":HRRW" : High Right Rear Wheel
    ":MB" : Medium Body
":MLFW" : Medium Left Front Wheel
":MRFW" : Medium Right Front Wheel
":MLMW" : Medium Left Middle Wheel
":MRMW" : Medium Right Middle Wheel
":MLRW" : Medium Left Rear Wheel
":MRRW" : Medium Right Rear Wheel
    ":LB" : Low Body
    ":TB" : Tiny Body
    ":OC" : Interior
":OND" : Driver's chair and steering wheel
":OD" : Driver holding steering wheel
    ":OH" : Driver head
    ":ODL" : Dash when lit
    ":OLM" : Left Mirror
    ":ORM" : Right Mirror
    ":OLB" : Left Front Brake
    ":ORB" : Right Front Brake
    ":OL" : Popup lights
    ":OT" : Top of Convertibles

Of course, you don't need to use all these names, but only the ones you use
- don't worry if you haven't got a driver's head or interior.

Also, when naming dummies, use the following names:

   License plate: ":LICENSE"/":LICMED"/":LICLOW" (License plate in High/Medium/Low res);
":LICENSE_EURO" (Long license plate in High res)

Smoke generator: ":SMOKE" (generates smoke when shifting)

   Lights:

Lights have a special coding which tells NFS4 what the light does.
The code is made up of four letters, followed by three numbers. The
   structure looks something like this:

      ABCD123

The codes have the following meanings

A : is the type of light. Can be one of the following letters:
          - "H" : Headlight
          - "T" : Tail light
          - "B" : Brake light
          - "R" : Reverse light
          - "P" : Indicator light
          - "S" : Siren
B : Colour of light. Can be one of the following:
          - "W" : White
          - "R" : Red
          - "B" : Blue
          - "O" : Orange
C : This is an unknown component, but I think it's always "Y"
D : Tells NFS4 if the light is flashing, and when.
          - "N" : Not flashing
          - "O" : Flashing at moment 1
          - "E" : Flashing at moment 2
1 : Intensity of the light. This is a number between 0 and 9, with 0 being
off (like it is broken). The usual value for this is 5.
2 : If a light is flashing, then this value is used to state how fast the
light flashes. The value is in the range of 0 to 9, with 9 being the
longest and 0 being the shortest time.
3 : The light delay - this is a value between 0 and 9, with 0 meaning no
       delay.

As an example, a standard headlight would have a code something like:

   'BRYN550'

The dummy and part names were supplied by Addict.

Things that are missing from this release
*****************************************
There's some things that are in the NFS4 FCE file format that you can't edit
yet with CarCAD. The next version should resolve most, if not all, of these
things:

 - Editing of normals (long overdue)
 - Smoothing group editing (also long overdue)
You can use the new FCETweak program to help with these two things.
 - 'Driver movements' data editing. I'll tell you about this when it's there.
 - I think there's a few other faults in the code in places - if these are
serious I'm sure people will tell me about it, and I'll get onto fixing
them as soon as I can.

Ok, that's all I've got time for at the moment. Hope this was helpful.

Chris Barnard.
